Man suspected in Osaka slashing incident in 2020 deported from Thailand

OSAKA (TR) – A 36-year-old man wanted for slashing another man’s face with a cutter knife in Osaka City four years ago is in custody after being deported to Japan from Thailand last week.

According to the police, Tatsuhito Hoshiyama, 36, is suspected of slashing a 57-year-old man’s face multiple times with a cutter knife on a street in Juso Motoimazato, Yodogawa Ward in September 2020. The victim suffered minor injuries, reports NHK (Dec. 20).

On December 20, police accused Hoshiyama of attempted murder. He has partially denied the charges, saying he “had no intention to kill.”

At the time of the incident, he suspect was riding a bicycle and got into a dispute with the victim, who was driving a car. Afterward, he fled the scene.

The suspect left for France the day after the incident. Police later placed him on a nationwide wanted list.

He wound up in Thailand. Local authorities there detained for assault. While being deported by plane, he was arrested during the flight.

Police are currently investigating the details of the incident.
