TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 65-year-old after he was found to have lived with a body believed to be that of his mother in Koganei City, reports TV Asahi (Dec. 3).
On Sunday, Hiroaki Suzuki, of no known occupation, reported to police that “my mother had passed away and I had left her [at our house] for over a year.”
Police arrived at the residence and found the decomposed body in the bedroom. Suzuki told police that his mother, aged in her 80s, died in September of last year.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of abandoning a corpse, Suzuki admitted to the allegations. “I didn’t tell anyone because I wanted to receive her pension.” he said.
Suzuki shared the residence with his mother. Police are now considering applying charges of fraud to the suspect.
