KYOTO (TR) – A man in custody over the alleged stabbing of his elderly mother and father on a street in Kyoto City earlier this year has been further accused of setting fire to their car, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (Mar. 29).
Just before 4:00 p.m. on March 4, Norio Kitamine allegedly used a knife to stab his father, 79, and mother, 71, in Kyoto City’s Fushima Ward.
The couple, who live in Kadoma City, Osaka Prefecture, suffered injuries to their faces and other parts of their bodies, but they survived the attack, police said previously.
In the latest development, police have accused of Kitamine of pouring oily liquid onto the car, registered to his father, and setting it ablaze on a road in Fushimi Ward shortly after the aforementioned stabbing incident.
During questioning, Kitamine has declined to comment on allegations of attempted murder and arson, police said.
According to the police, Kitamine drove to the scene with his parents in the car. After the incident, the car was found on fire about 200 meters away. By the time of the discovery, Kitamine had fled the scene.
Police placed Kitamine on a wanted list three days later. Police also released security camera footage showing his face.
Police apprehended Kitamine in Osaka Prefecture on March 8.
