FUKUSHIMA (TR) – Fukushima Prefectural Police arrested a 24-year-old man following a 5-hour standoff in which he temporarily held captive the director of an animal clinic in Sukagawa City on Tuesday.

At around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Tatsunosuke Fueki, of no known occupation, allegedly broke into the animal clinic while carrying four knives. He then bound the hands and feet of the clinic’s female director, aged in her 50s, with something like a rope.

Afterward, the director untied herself and escaped. She suffered abrasions on her arms, police said.

After the escape, Fueki barricaded himself inside for about five hours. Police later apprehended him on suspicion of robbery and trespassing.

According to investigators, the director’s daughter had consulted the police multiple times regarding Fueki since the beginning of this year. As a result, police had been providing crime prevention guidance to the family.

Police later changed the charge to robbery resulting in injury. He was sent to prosecutors on Thursday.
