Man, 52, apprehended over stabbing of woman in Ehime

EHIME (TR) – Ehime Prefectural Police have arrested a 52-year-old man over the alleged stabbing of a woman on a street in Matsuyama City last week, reports Fuji News Network (Mar. 23).

At around 12:30 a.m. on March 20, Suzuki Shuichi, of no known occupation, came up from behind the woman, aged in her 30s, and covered her mouth. “I’ll kill you,” he said before slashing her neck with a knife.

The victim suffered a 2-centimeter-long cut behind her right ear. The injury is expected to require 10 days to heal, police said.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, Suzuki, a resident of the same city, declined to comment.

Suzuki and the woman were not acquainted. During the incident, the victim resisted, which caused Suzuki to flee.

Police later used security camera footage to apprehend the suspect on March 22.
