Upon his arrest on suspicion of assault resulting in death, Sato said, “[Yoneno] grabbed me by the collar, so I tried to shake him off.”

The suspect and the victim were not acquainted. An examination of the store’s security camera footage, showed the pair arguing in front of the store just before the incident. Afterward, Sato went shopping inside.

Police are now investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
