FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police on Friday arrested a 61-year-old employee at a quarry in Kitakyushu City over the alleged fatal running over of a colleague with a dump truck.
The arrested suspect is Hiroyuki Takahashi, 61, a company employee from Chikujo Town, Fukuoka Prefecture.
At around 2:30 p.m., Hiroyuki Takahashi, allegedly drove the dump truck over his male colleague on the grounds of quarry in Kokuraminami Ward, killing him.
Two people nearby also suffered minor injuries caused by falling while fleeing the vehicle, police said, according to NHK (Oct. 4). Two cars were also damaged in the incident.
A person who was at the quarry reported the incident, and Takahashi was arrested on the spot by police officers who rushed to the scene.
In response to police questioning, Takahashi admitted to charges of murder, saying, “There is no doubt that I ran over and killed the victim.”
According to police, Takahashi had gotten into an argument with another man over the usage of the intercom system while working. The large dump truck then swerved out of control, hitting the victim who was nearby.
One of the two people injured was the man Takahashi was arguing with. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
