‘Japan’s largest CBD shop’ in Shibuya busted for sale of narcotics

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have busted a CBD business in Shibuya Ward over the alleged sale of products containing narcotics, reports NHK (Dec. 17).

In April, Tsugunosuke Hasegawa, the 29-year-old manager of Gray Tattoo, allegedly sold two cigar-shaped products called “joints” containing cannabis-derived ingredients to a female customer for 5,500 yen.

The plant fragments contained the narcotic Δ8-THC while the store falsely claimed that they were “legal,” police said.

Police have not revealed whether Hasegawa has admitted to violating the Narcotics Control Act, citing it would impede the investigation.

Gray Tattoo bills itself online as “Japan’s largest CBD shop.” During questioning, Hasegawa stated that “about 100 customers came to the store every day.”

According to police, customers at the store have complained of hallucinations and other symptoms since around May of this year, with 11 people having been taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Police are currently examining some seized products to see if they contain any illegal ingredients. The store’s operations are also under scrutiny.
