Ibaraki woman, 51, accused in fatal slashing of husband

IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested a 51-year-old woman over the alleged fatal stabbing of her husband in their residence in Mito City on Friday.

At around 7:40 a.m., Sumiyo Tsuji, of no known occupation, allegedly used a kitchen knife to slash the neck and other parts of the body of her husband, 54-year-old Yoshinori, reports NHK (Dec. 6).

After receiving a distress call, emergency services found Yoshinori collapsed in the residence with blood from all over his body. He later died at a hospital.

Upon her arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, Tsuji admitted to the allegations.

According to the police, the suspect lived with her husband and their eldest daughter, a university student.

Police later changed the charge to murder. They are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident, believing some kind of trouble existed between the couple.

The scene of the crime is in a residential area about 4 kilometers northwest of JR Mito Station.
