Ibaraki man accused in fatal stabbing of acquaintance

IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested a 68-year-old man over the alleged murder of a male acquaintance at the victim’s residence in Hitachinaka City last week, reports NHK (Dec. 14).

Between 9:30 and 9:50 a.m. on December 10, Toyozo Ishida, a part-time employee, allegedly stabbed Eiichi Sanpei, 74, in the neck and stomach with a knife.

Shortly thereafter, a visitor found Sampei collapsed and bleeding inside the residence. He was later confirmed dead, police said.

Police later accused Ishida, a resident of Mito City, of breaking into the house. In the latest development, he was further accused of murder on Saturday.

Police have not revealed whether the suspect has admitted to the crime, as it would hinder the investigation.

In first apprehending Ishida, police used security camera taken in the area.

Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to the incident and seeking the murder weapon, which has yet to be found.
