Hyogo man, 56, accused of raping male university student on night bus

KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 56-year-old man over the alleged sexual assault of a male university student on a night bus traveling between Osaka to Tokyo on Monday.

Between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m., Nobuhide Oka is suspected of sexually assaulting the student, 22, as he sat next to him on the bus as it traveled along the Tomei Expressway, reports TBS News (Mar. 18).

During questioning on suspicion of non-consensual sexual intercourse, Oka, a self-described office worker from Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture, admitted to the charges.

The incident came to light when the student, who lives in Hyogo, reported the assault to the male driver of the bus at the Ayuzawa Parking Area in the town of Yamakita, Kanagawa Prefecture.

Police are currently investigating the motive of the suspect and circumstances that led to the incident.
