HIROSHIMA (TR) – A 40-year-old man is in custody her after he allegedly injured two women with his vehicle, a crime he committed after apparently stabbing his wife to death.
At around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Yukitoshi Okimoto, of no known occupation, allegedly struck the two women, aged 80 and 54, with his vehicle in Onomichi City. The women suffered unspecified injuries, reports NHK (Aug. 2).
Upon his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, Orimoto admitted to the allegations. “There is no doubt that I hit them with my car,” he said. He added, “I saw an 80-year-old woman in front of me and I wanted to kill her.”
“I hurt my wife”
The suspect and the two women all live in the same neighborhood in Onomichi. About 10 minutes before the incident, Okimoto contacted the police. “I hurt my wife,” he said.
When police rushed to his home, they found his wife, 42-year-old Naoko, with wounds to her upper body. She was later confirmed dead at a hospital.
The suspect lived with his wife and daughter, who was unharmed, police said.
Police believe that Okimoto slashed his wife, then got in his car and hit the two women in the neighborhood. The circumstances that led to the incidents are under investigation.
