Girlfriend of suspect in Katsushika robbery alerted police

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested a 23-year-old man over the alleged robbery at a residence in Katsushika Ward after his girlfriend provided a tip, reports Fuji News Network (Nov. 6).

At around midnight on November 2, Hinata Motohashi, 23, and Yuta Yamauchi, 29, allegedly broke into the home, tied up the elderly male resident with tape, assaulted him and stole an unspecified amount of cash and other items, reports Fuji News Network (Nov. 5).

The suspects are believed to have ransacked the house for around 10 hours before a neighbor noticed something was wrong and called police.

When questioned on suspicion of robbery and assault, Motohashi said, “I wanted money, so I searched for “same-day part-time work” on social media three days before the incident. I was offered several tens of thousands of yen.

After the group of perpetrators met near the scene, the person in charge told him to “get something from the house.” After Motohashi hesitated, the leader threatened him, he told police.

Two days after the crime, Motohashi’s girlfriend contacted police, saying that her boyfriend might be involved in the robbery. Police later found Motohashi at his home in Shinjuku Ward.

Yamauchi is a restaurant employee in Hachioji City. He was apprehended before Motohashi, police said.
