Fukushima man, 35, accused of raping, robbing woman in Koriyama

FUKUSHIMA (TR) – Fukushima Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a 35-year-old male office worker over the alleged rape and robbery of a woman in her residence in Koriyama City last month.

On the night of February 26, Yuya Kawamoto allegedly pointed a knife at the woman, aged in her twenties, at her apartment in Tomiyamacho. “I’ll kill you if you make a fuss,” he threatened, reports Fuji News Network (Mar. 18).

He then allegedly tied her wrists and sexually assaulted her. He also stole 8,500 yen in cash and three cash cards.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of non-consensual sexual intercourse and robbery, Kawamoto denied the allegations. “I didn’t do it,” he said.

According to investigators, Kawamoto was not acquainted with the woman before the incident. But there are indications that he targeted her home before committing the crime.

Kawamoto emerged as a person of interest in the case after an examination of security camera footage.
