Ex-Jungle Pocket member Shinji Saito accused of raping woman

TOKYO (TR) – Shinji Saito, a former member of the comedy trio Jungle Pocket, has been indicted without being released by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office for sexually assaulting a woman on a location bus last July, reports NHK (Mar. 26).

According to prosecutors, the 42-year-old is alleged to have sexually assaulted the woman, aged in her 20s, after meeting her for the first time on a location bus parked in Shinjuku Ward in July.

The prosecutor’s office has not revealed whether the former member of Jungle Pocket admits to the charges.

Saito and the woman together on the bus while he was co-starring in a shoot for a television program. Afterward, she lodged a complaint with police.

After an investigation was conducted, police sent documents on Saito to the prosecutor’s office in October. He was indicted without being released on Wednesday.

The agency Saito belonged to announced in September that he would be suspending his activities for the time being. His contract was terminated the following month.
