TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested eight Sri Lankan nationals over a brawl that erupted over a problem with a woman in Suginami Ward last year, reports NHK (Jan. 23).
According to police, more than 20 members of two rival gangs of Sri Lankans brawled on a street in the ward at around 10:00 p.m. on September 8.
During the fight, members of both gangs used empty bottles and wood beams as weapons. Some of the combatants suffered injuries, such as broken fingers.

Among the eight suspects are the male leaders of the two gangs — 37-year-old Sujan Dahanayake Saranga and a 46-year-old Sri Lankan national.
Upon their arrests on suspicion of assault resulting in injury, both leaders denied the allegations. “I do not recall [the matter],” one said.
According to police, the fight erupted due to relationship problem involving a woman one of the members was dating.
