OSAKA (TR) – A Chinese man was arrested on Monday for attempting to rob a male trading company executive in Osaka City of 20 million yen in cash, reports TV Asahi (Dec. 17).
According to police, the man arrested on the spot on suspicion of robbery resulting in injury is Zhou Shuwei, a 25-year-old Chinese national.
At 3:47 p.m., the male executive, 37, of the trading company in Chuo Ward called police. “Someone stole my money and punched me in the face and chest,” he said.
Zhou is suspected of visiting the company saying he wanted to exchange Chinese yuan for Japanese yen. He then injured the male executive by punching him in the face while attempting to steal a paper bag containing 20 million yen in cash.
The victim subdued Zhou on the spot and handed him over to the police. He suffered minor injuries, including a cut lip, police said.
Police did not reveal whether the suspect admits to the allegations.
Earlier this month, the company received a phone call from someone saying that they needed Japanese yen and offered to exchange the money from Chinese yuan.
When Zhou showed up on Monday, executive asked him, “Where is the yuan?” Zhou replied, “It’s in the car.” When he tried to leave with the yen in cash, the president tried to take it back and was punched by Zhou.
