CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested a 33-year-old woman over the alleged stabbing of a male customer at a discount store in Chiba City on Sunday.
Also under investigation is a fire that broke out inside the suspect’s home at around the time of the incident, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 14).
At around 11:45 a.m., a person at the store in Wakaba Ward alerted police. “A woman with a kitchen knife is acting violently. [Her] knife has now been taken away. A man has been injured,” the caller said.
Police arriving at the scene arrested Kazumi Nagata, of no known occupation, for allegedly using a knife to slash the thigh and other parts of the body of a 60-year-old man inside.
The man suffered injuries that will take two weeks to heal, police said.
After being accused of attempted murder, Nagata admitted to the allegations.
Nagata was not acquainted with the man before the incident. At the tine, the suspect had three knives in her possession.
The suspect lives in an apartment building near the store. Just before the incident, a fire broke out inside her second-floor unit. Police are now investigating whether there is a connection between the two incidents.
