AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have arrested a 61-year-old man over the alleged killing of his mother at their residence in Takahama City last week, reports the Asahi Shimbun (May 7).
At around 9:00 p.m. on May 6, Koji Yamamoto, of no known occupation, turned himself in at a police station. He said, “I’ve killed my mother.”
Police rushing to the residence found his mother, 85-year-old Sachiko, collapsed inside. She was taken to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest. However, she was later confirmed dead.
Sachiko’s body had no visible external injuries. However, the results of an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to pressure on the neck.
Yamamoto shared the residence with his mother. Upon his arrest on suspicion of murder on May 7, the suspect admitted to the allegations, police said.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
