Aichi hospital headed by ex-lower house member suspected of illegally receiving COVID subsidies

AICHI (TR) – The Aichi Prefectural Government has revealed that a hospital in Ichinomiya City headed by Hirofumi Imamura, a former House of Representatives member, fraudulently received approximately 450 million yen in COVID-19 countermeasure subsidies.

Imamura is the director of psychiatric facility Imamura Hospital. After a detailed investigation by the prefecture, it was concluded that the hospital fraudulently received a total of approximately 450 million yen, reports TBS News (Mar. 13).

The results of the investigation found that the hospital had repeatedly received unjust subsidies through the forging delivery notes for medical equipment that had not actually been purchased.

The government requested that the hospital submit the documents 10 times, but the hospital did not comply.

The prefecture is seeking the return of 1.765 billion yen, which is the total amount of subsidies paid to the hospital between 2020 and 2024. Further, it is considering penalties and filing criminal charges on suspicion of fraud.

Imamura commented, “I will return it within this month.”
