AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have arrested the former manager of a convenience store in Inuyama City over a robbery at the outlet that took place earlier this month.
On February 26, police sent Junya Sawaki, 28, an electronics salesman, to prosecutors on suspicion of attempted robbery and murder, reports NHK (Feb. 26).
According to police, Sawaki threatened a male clerk at a 7-Eleven in Inuyama with a knife and slashed him in the neck before fleeing with 130,000 yen in cash from the safe.
The clerk suffered injuries that required 16 stitches. The injuries required two weeks to heal, police said.

Sawaki is the former manager of the store and was acquainted with the clerk. According to police, Sawaki knew the location of the safe in advance. He is believed to have committed the crime for financial gain.
When questioned by the police, Sawaki denied having an intention to kill. “I didn’t intend to kill him from the beginning,” he said. “Everything else was done by me.”
