WAKAYAMA (TR) – Police are investigating an altercation at an apartment in Wakayama City that left two elderly women dead and a man severely injured on Saturday, reports TBS News (Mar. 12).

Police received an emergency call from a person who said a “male neighbor was stabbed with a knife” in an apartment in the Demizu area at around 3:30 p.m.

Responding officers found a 68-year-old man with severe injuries to his side. Neighbor Hanako Taiki, 71, was found collapsed with a knife sticking out of her chest, and was confirmed dead at a hospital.

Officers also found neighbor Tamiko Sugeta, 79, collapsed with a power cord wrapped around her neck, and was also confirmed dead after being rushed to a hospital.

The man told police that Taiki “attacked me with a knife, saying ‘Let’s die together.’”

Police believe that all persons involved were acquaintances. They are investigating the case as murder, Nippon News Network reported (Mar. 12).

A woman who found Sugeta said she was “lying there face-down, and her hands were all covered in blood. An officer was outside, so I told him, ‘Please come here.’”
