Osaka cops: Yamaguchi-gumi boss passed phone to associate on the run

OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested the boss of an affiliate gang of the Yamaguchi-gumi for allegedly aiding a fellow gang member on the run, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Mar. 6).

Toriki Akira, the 60-year-old boss of the Akira Rengo-kai, allegedly passed a mobile phone to a male senior member of the same gang at a restaurant in Osaka in June 2016 while knowing he was put on a wanted list in May 2016 on suspicion of assembling with dangerous weapons.

Akira, held on suspicion of violation of the Act on Punishment of Organized Crimes and Control of Crime Proceeds, is currently under prosecution on a weapons charge. This latest arrest is his third.
