TOKYO (TR) – A male American national and two associates were arrested for making reservations at luxury hotels using credit card details of over 100 victims and robbing them of some 40 million yen, the Sankei Shimbun (Mar. 5) reports.
Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested the man, 36, professional golfer Kotaro Miyashita, 29, and one associate for allegedly booking rooms at hotels in Okinawa and Tokyo, including a luxury hotel in Chiyoda Ward, on site Rakuten Travel in August 2016 with credit card information from other persons. The damage to the victims totaled around 299,000 yen.
The suspects are denying the charges, police said.
Beginning in the summer of 2015, the group repeatedly booked luxury hotels and airplane tickets using credit card details of over 100 victims, running up charges of over 40 million yen.
According to police, the suspects likely either used the booked tickets and hotel rooms themselves or resold them for cash.
