AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have arrested a 42-year-old man in the killing of an elderly couple in their residence in Nagoya last week, reports TBS News (Mar. 6).

On Saturday evening, Hiroshi Matsui surrendered to police over the killing of Katsuo Oshima, 83, and his wife, 80-year-old Tamiko, whose bodies were found by a neighbor  inside a room on the first floor of the residence, located in Minami Ward.

According to police, both of their throats had been slit by a knife. Money had also been stolen from the premises.

The neighbor made the grisly discovery after not being able to meet with Tamiko at an appointed time.

Matsui, who also lives in Minami Ward, is believed to have committed the crime on the day before the couple’s bodies were found. He generally admits to the allegations, police said.

“Because he likes to gamble, he seems to have been in trouble with money,” an acquaintance of the suspect tells the network. “He seems to have borrowed [money] from his landlord or a friend.”
