TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday corralled a pony that had run loose in the capital after escaping from a pet store, reports TBS News (Dec. 16).

At around 7:00 p.m., police received a number of tips from witnesses claiming that a pony was moving through the streets of Shibuya Ward.

“When I saw him come strolling down a dark road without any pedestrian traffic, I did a double-take,”one witness is quoted.

Officers later captured the pony, a three-year old male, as it snacked on grass at the Shibuya campus of Kokugakuin University, located about one kilometer from the pet store.

“He wasn’t making noise or acting violently, just quietly eating grass,” a representative of the university’s public relations department is quoted by Nippon News Network (Dec. 16).

Representatives of the pet store later took custody of the pony. .
