Miyagi cops: Work crew finds male corpse in bag

MIYAGI (TR) – Miyagi Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a male corpse in a forested area of the town of Rifu, reports TV Asahi (Dec. 14).

At around noon on Wednesday, a work crew inspecting a power cable in the Kamiyasawa area found the body packed entirely within a plastic bag.

According to police, the body, measuring around 170 centimeters in height, did not have any external wounds. His clothes showed no signs of having been disturbed. He was wearing sandals and glasses.

The man is believed to be between the age of 40 and 70. Police suspect the time of death was recent.

A change purse was found at the scene but no items that could assist in the identification of the man.

According to the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 14), police are treating the case as the result of foul play or a suicide.

An autopsy to be conducted on the body to determine the cause of death is scheduled for Thursday.
