TOKYO (TR) – With the year-end party season under way, Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Friday initiated a patrol through a major entertainment district in Minato Ward to warn against unlawful street touts, reports TV Asahi (Dec. 10).

On Friday night, a patrol roamed the streets of the Roppongi entertainment district, a popular gathering point for foreign tourists, to caution against street touts who unlawfully attempt to pull in customers to bars and clubs.

The initiative is part of intensified enforcement of a public nuisance ordinance toward the activities of street touts.

Street touts were cited as a concern in a warning issued by the Embassy of the United States issued to its citizens in August. The embassy said it had been continuing to receive reports of theft or fraud that result from “drink spiking” incidents taking place at bars and clubs in major entertainment areas, including Roppongi.
