SHIGA (TR) – A police sergeant was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly flipping up a woman’s skirt and bear-hugging her buttocks on a street in Hikone City.

Shiga Prefectural Police charged Kazushi Yasuda, 33, of the regional division of the Nagahama Police Station with indecent assault for flipping up the 26-year-old woman’s skirt under her coat from behind and bear-hugging her buttocks, among other actions, at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the Sankei Shimbun reports (Dec. 7).

Yasuda fled after the woman resisted, police said, adding an officer located the suspect in the neighborhood after she reported the suspected indecent assault.

Yasuda, who traveled to Hikone City after work using his private car, is partially denying some of the charges, police said.

Chief Inspector Yutaka Ito said he “extends a deep apology to first of all to the woman who was a victim and to the people of the prefecture.”

“We will strive to get to the bottom of this case and strictly handle it,” Ito said.
