TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a 25-year-old male Chinese graduate student in the killing of the female roommate of his former girlfriend in Nakano Ward, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Nov. 24).

At just past midnight on November 3, Chen Shifeng, a 25-year-old resident of Itabashi Ward, allegedly stabbed Jiang Ge, a 24-year-old Chinese student, in the neck outside her second-floor apartment.

Jiang, a friend of both the suspect and his former girlfriend, died about two hours after arriving at a nearby hospital.

Chen, who faces murder charges, has declined to comment on the allegations.

Chen and his former girlfriend, also 24, attended the same graduate school. After living together between June and August, they separated with her moving in with Jiang.

An examination of surveillance camera footage taken around the apartment at the time of the murder confirmed Chen’s presence.

“I am glad that the culprit was arrested, but I am sad that my daughter is gone,” the victim’s father, 47, is quoted by the Asahi.

On November 7, police also arrested Chen for allegedly sending a threatening message to his former girlfriend via a social network service on the day before the killing.
