GIFU (TR) – Gifu Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of three bodies inside a residence in Gifu City on Thursday afternoon, reports Fuji News Network (Nov. 18).

At approximately 3:00 p.m., police working off a tip entered the home and found three bodies likely belonging to Katsutori Takeuchi, 73, his wife, 71-year-old Yumiko, and their 43-year-old son, all of whom live on the premises.

The bodies, which were heavily decayed and emaciated, did not contain any external wounds.

Police suspect the three persons died from natural causes and starvation. They had likely been dead for more than one week.

Prior to the discovery, a civic employee alerted police after not being able to contact the occupants of the residence, according to Fuji News Network (Nov. 18). The landlord of the residence is quoted by the network as saying that the rent had not been paid over a three-month period.

Police are now attempting to confirm the identities of the bodies.
