Hokkaido police: Stabbing on Sapporo street leaves man seriously injured

HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police are questioning a man in a stabbing incident in Sapporo on Wednesday night that left another man seriously injured, reports Nippon News Network (Nov. 17).

At around 8:25 p.m. on Wednesday, a knife-wielding assailant stabbed a man in the stomach and chest several times on a street in Higashi Ward. Before fleeing the scene, the assailant pushed the victim inside a vehicle.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Prior to the incident, the victim had gotten into an argument with the assailant, a male believed to be in his 30s or 40s. Police arrived at the scene after being tipped off by a woman living in the area who saw the men engaging in a dispute. “I’ll kill you,” she reported hearing one of them say.

Police found a knife in the vicinity of the crime scene.

At around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, police apprehended a man in Chuo Ward who is now being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the Hokkaido Shimbun (Nov. 17).
