IWATE (TR) – Iwate Prefectural Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of two bodies inside a home in the town of Sumida on Tuesday, police said.

At around 3 p.m., police working off a tip found the bodies of Shizuko Owada, 83, and her daughter, 62-year-old Itsuko, collapsed and bleeding in their home, reports Nippon News Network (Nov. 15).

Both persons were confirmed dead at the scene, leading authorities to open a murder case.

Police are now questioning the elderly woman’s husband, who initially discovered the bodies and alerted a relative, and the husband of the daughter, police said.

A neighbor said the man is disabled and hardly ever saw him outside, according to TBS News (Nov. 15).

A relative who lives nearby said the family “were all good people, and I don’t think people have grudges against them, but I don’t know.”
