Tokyo cops hunting for scooter rider who struck child in hit-and-run

TOKYO (TR) – A man is wanted in connection with a hit-and-run case where he was seen fleeing the scene on a motor scooter after hitting a child riding a bike on Wednesday, police said.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police received an emergency call reporting that a “bicycle and a motor scooter collided” at around 2 p.m. in Koganei City, TV Asahi reports (Nov. 9).

Responding officers arrived to witness the suspect fleeing on a motor scooter, leaving the child, an 11-year-old boy in fifth-grade elementary school, with light injuries for which he was transported to a hospital.

The suspect, thought to be a young man, was last seen riding a black motor scooter and wearing a black jumper as he raced toward Mitaka City, police said.
