TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 20-year-old university student in the drunken assault of a male Brazilian national on a road in the Ikebukuro area of Toshima Ward, reports TV Asahi (Nov. 3).

At around 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Kai Nishijima, a second-year student at a private university, allegedly pulled the man, a 25-year-old resident of Saitama Prefecture, to the ground near a restaurant and beat him in the face several times. Nishijima was drunk at the time of the attack, police said.

The victim, who had also been out drinking, was transported to a nearby hospital in an unconscious state with a cerebral contusion, according to TBS News (Nov. 3).

Prior to the incident, the victim had gotten into an argument with an employee of the restaurant. Nishijima then happened to pass by the scene.

“With the quarrel ongoing, I joined by kicking,” the suspect is quoted in admitting to assaulting the victim. “I kicked him hard in the head three times.”
