KOCHI (TR) – An elderly man was arrested on Friday in Kochi City after he turned himself in, claiming to have sprayed graffiti that said such things as “big liars” on the doors of the headquarters of prefectural police and the public prosecutor’s office.
Police arrested Moriyuki Okamura, 66, who is unemployed, on suspicion of destruction of property and trespassing after he turned himself in claiming to have sprayed graffiti on the doors of the Kochi Prefectural Police Headquarters, the Kochi District Public Prosecutor’s Office and a government office building using red spray paint, Nippon News Network reports (October 31).
A suspicious individual was captured on security camera footage wandering the grounds of the Kochi Prefectural Police and the government building past 3 a.m. on Monday, police said.
Red spray was used for the graffiti, which sprawled across the glass entrance doors of the buildings. One of the writings on the police headquarters doors read “big liars, criminal organization” and another on the doors of the public prosecutors office read “defend human rights, uphold the law.”
The graffiti for both buildings could be related based on similar lettering, police said.
Six people were on rotating shift duty in a room near the entrance of the police headquarters overnight, but failed to notice the graffiti until past 4:30 a.m., the Kochi Shimbun quoted police as saying.
Police vowed to “strengthen security around the government building.”
