Saitama cops: Man beat woman with baseball bat at convenience store

SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in the alleged beating of a woman with a baseball bat at a convenience store in Sayama City, reports TBS News (Oct. 30).

At around 8:10 a.m. on Sunday, emergency services received a distress call about a “man beating a woman with a bat” in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven, located in the Sasai area.

Officers arriving a the scene found the woman, 38, collapsed and bleeding from her head. She was transported to a hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries.

After the incident, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, but he was apprehended about 10 minutes later while in possession of a blood-stained bat.

The suspect was identified as Genta Watanabe, a resident of Iruma City. He is not acquainted with the victim.

Watanabe, who has been charged with attempted murder, admits to the allegations. “I did it after becoming irritated,” the suspect is quoted by police, according to TV Asahi (Oct. 30).
