TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested two organized crime members after they allegedly attempted to steal a high-end wristwatch from a delivery man, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Oct. 28).

On June 13, Yusuke Kodama, 32, and Hirekazu Oba, 35, both members of the Matsuba-kai, allegedly snatched away a Rolex wristwatch (valued at 858,000 yen) that was ordered cash-on-delivery from a 38-year-old employee from Sagawa Express after he arrived at the gang’s office in Arakawa Ward.

At the time of the incident, the gangsters used a toy gun to pretend to be fighting. “You had better get out of here under these circumstances,” one of the gang members said to the delivery man.

The Sagawa employee along with a male colleague, 44, then forcibly took back the package and the gun before fleeing the scene.

Both suspects have been charged with attempted blackmail. “With the delivery man being strong, we couldn’t overpower him,” Oba was quoted by police in admitting the allegations. Kodama denies the charges, saying that only Oba was involved.
