TOKYO (TR) – Following the swindling of an elderly woman out of nearly four million yen, Tokyo Metropolitan Police police are seeking the help of the public in locating a man suspected in the crime, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 4).

On Tuesday, police released a video clip showing the man, who is sought in connection with the swindling a 78-year-old woman living in Itabashi Ward in August.

In a scam known as ore ore sagi, or “it’s me fraud,” the suspect claimed to be the woman’s son on the telephone, telling her that he needed money since he had “gotten a woman pregnant through an extra-marital affair.” The woman then met a man claiming to be a lawyer near her residence, and handed him a total of 3.8 million yen in cash.

In the clip, the man, with a medium build and short black hair, is seen wearing a white shirt and talking on a phone. Standing approximately 165 centimeters in height, he is believed to be in his 40s.

Persons with information on the case are advised to call the Shimura Police Station at 03-3966-0110.
