TOKYO (TR) – A man was arrested for extorting a wallet from a woman he met on a matchmaking web site after claiming his father is a member of organized crime, police announced on Sunday.
Yuta Ozawa, 29, who is unemployed with no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of extortion for allegedly stealing a wallet containing 20,000 yen from a woman he met on a matchmaking site during a cab ride after threatening her at a hotel in Suginami Ward on August 14, the Asahi Shimbun reports (September 4).
Ozawa, who made threats like “My father is in the yakuza” and “You know what’ll happen if you run from me” to the woman, is denying the charges.
TBS News reported that Ozawa plans to meet with a lawyer before making further statements.
Five other women have filed claims that Ozawa stole money from them while operating under a fake identity as Sengo Akatsuki on matchmaking web sites, police said.
