KUMAMOTO (TR) – Kumamoto Prefectural Police have arrested a 37-year-old volunteer to an earthquake-devastated area on illegal drug charges, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 8).

In the middle of May, Go Tsuji, a resident of Nagano Prefecture, allegedly passed 10 grams of marijuana to another male volunteer, aged in his 30s, in the town of Mashiki.

In April, two strong earthquakes caused widespread devastation to structures and utility services across Kumamoto Prefecture. Following the tremors, Tsuji provided emergency assistance at a shelter in Mashiki.

The man who allegedly received the marijuana was arrested on August 2 for possession of the illegal drug. After his release, the investigation continued. Tsuji turned himself over to police on Monday.
