Tokyo cops: Troupe member drugged, sexually assaulted woman

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested theatrical troupe member for drugging a female acquaintance and then allegedly sexually assaulting her, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 3).

Tatsuya Yoshitake, 35, dropped a sleeping powder inside a drink of the acquaintance, a college student in her 20s, at a coffee shop at JR Ueno Station. After the she fell unconscious, the suspect took her to another location and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Yoshitake, who has been charged with pseudo-rape, denies the charges.

Security camera footage from inside the coffee shop shows Yoshitake spiking the drink. After noticing that her beverage had taken on a blue color, the victim took a photo of it just prior to blacking out, according to the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 3).

After committing the alleged crime, Yoshitake escorted the victim, while still in a groggy state, to the residence of a mutual friend. The victim later described what had happened to her mother, who reported the incident to the Ueno Police Station in July.
