KANAGAWA (TR) – A senior police officer with the Kanagawa Prefectural Police was suspended for six months on Friday after pointing a gun at a male colleague during training to try to get him “pumped up.”

A male senior officer, 32, of the Fujisawa Police Station was suspended for six months as disciplinary action for violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law by pointing a gun at his colleague inside a police station, the Asahi Shimbun reports (July 15).

The senior officer has admitted to the charges, telling police, “I was giving him instructions as a more experienced colleague, so I ended up pointing a gun at him to get him pumped up.”

Officials said the senior officer allegedly pointed a gun at his colleague, who is in his 30s, a total of three times between mid-January to the end of May. The senior officer’s gun was loaded the first two times, and emptied the gun’s chamber the third time just before he pointed it at his colleague.

The senior officer’s actions were brought to light in May after the colleague alerted his superior.

The two officers had reportedly been working at the same Fujisawa station since September 2014.
