Miyagi cops: Male corpse found in Sendai river

MIYAGI (TR) – Miyagi Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a male corpse in a river in Sendai, reports Kahoku Shimpo (July 11).

At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, a fisherman found the body of a man caught on a sandbar of the Nanakita River in the Akouzu Nanakita area of Izumi Ward. Emergency personnel arriving at the scene confirmed the person dead.

According to the Izumi Police Station, the body, measuring 168 centimeters in height, was clothed in a black t-shirt and boxer shorts. The person, who has dark, cropped hair, was not wearing shoes.

Police are now working to identify the body.

The location of the discovery is a few hundred meters upstream from the Yurtec Stadium Sendai sporting facility.
