FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of the bodies of two women in a residence in Kitakyushu City, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Jun 29).

At approximately 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, officers from the Yahatanishi Police Station found the two bodies — one inside a futon; the other collapsed on the floor — in a living room of the residence, located in the Sainokami area of Yahatanishi Ward. Both persons were confirmed dead at the scene.

The bodies did not exhibit any external wounds. There were signs that the residence had been ransacked.

According to police, the bodies are likely those of the two elderly women who live in the apartment.

Police are now attempting to confirm the identities of the persons and determine the causes of the death.

Police were alerted to the scene after a visitor peered through the mail slot of the residence and saw the corpses.
