Tokyo police search for man in ¥2 million swindle of elderly woman

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday released a photo of a man wanted in the swindle of an 82-year-old woman in Nerima Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 2).

On the afternoon of April 6, the woman handed over two million yen in cash to the suspect, who is believed to be in his 60s and approximately 160 centimeters in height.

Prior to the transfer, a person falsely claiming to be the woman’s son told her on the telephone that he needed money to repay a debt at his office. After visiting an automatic-teller machine, the woman handed the money over to a person claiming to be her son’s colleague who appeared at her front door.

The image provided by police was taken from security camera footage. The man is wanted on suspicion of fraud.
