HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police have arrested a 67-year-old man for attacking a 61-year-old female neighbor and her daughter, who later died, at an apartment building in Amagasaki City, reports NHK (May 20).

Just before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, police responding to a call found the bodies of Hatsuko Nishi, 61, and Chiharu Adachi, her 33-year-old daughter, collapsed and bleeding outside the building.

Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital. Adachi, who was visiting her mother, was later confirmed dead. Nishi remains in critical condition.

Police accused Hayao Toyoshima, a resident of a first-floor apartment, of beating the women with a hammer and stabbing them with a knife. The women sustained wounds to their chests and abdomens. A blood-stained hammer and knife were found by police inside his residence.

Toyoshima, who has been charged with attempted murder, admits to the allegations, telling police that he had become irritated by repeated loud sounds coming from the second floor, where Nishi lives.

Just prior to the incident, Adachi and Nishi had been returned home from shopping. Toyoshima attacked the women after he found them to be too noisy.
