TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of male and female corpses inside a residence in Setagaya Ward, reports the NHK (May 20).

On Friday, officers from the Seijo Police Station found two decomposed bodies crushed beneath a cabinet inside a room of the residence, located in the Soshigaya area.

The bodies, which are believed to be those of a man, 58, and his 59-year-old wife who live in the residence, did not have any external wounds.

The windows and doors were locked at the time of the discovery.

Police suspect that the cause of the deaths was an accident whereby the couple was attempting to move the cabinet, measuring approximately one meter in height, when it fell on them.

Police were alerted to the scene after a neighbor noticed an accumulation of newspapers at the residence.
