Tokyo cops: Woman attempts to rob convenience store with knife, hammer

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 35-year-old woman who attempted to rob a convenience store in Koto Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 17) .

At 6:05 a.m. on Tuesday, Kayoko Ando allegedly wielded a knife in demanding money from a 40-year-old male cashier at an outlet of the Sunkus chain, located in the Kitasuna area.

The employee apprehended Ando as she pulled a hammer from a bag. During the scuffle, the employee suffered a slight injury to his hand.

Officers from the Joto Police Station arrived at the scene and charged Ando with robbery and inflicting injury. During questioning, she has declined to comment on the incident.

According to police, Ando approached by the counter of the store by pretending to be a customer wanting to buy cigarettes.
