TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a man who was missing following the discovery of the body of his mother inside the home they share in Komae City, reports Fuji News Network (May 9).
On Sunday evening, police received a call from a man who said that he had gotten into an argument with his mother. Officers arriving at the scene found the body of Fumi Tomori, 73, was found lying face-up on a bed in the residence, located in the Izumihoncho area. Her head was wrapped in a white cloth.
Tomori shares the residence with two sons, the eldest of whom, aged in his 40s, was missing when police arrived.
At just before 6:00 a.m. on Monday, the eldest son was apprehended by police on a road in Kawasaki City. Since he was in possession of a knife, police arrested him for violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law.
During questioning, the son hinted at involvement in his mother’s death.
According to NHK (May 9), the eldest son visited a police box near the residence several times in December. During those visits, he appeared to be mentally troubled.
